This qualification is suitable for those who want to improve their ability to support the literacy learning of individuals with dyslexia. It will be particularly relevant for teachers, teaching assistants and learning support staff who have responsibility for supporting learners with dyslexia in their literacy learning. You will need to be in a role where you are offering learning support in a literacy learning context in order to meet the assessment requirements for the qualification.
You will take one mandatory unit which covers the ways in which dyslexia can affect the development of reading, writing and spelling processes, the effect of difficulties with working memory on literacy learning, key dyslexia markers in the context of literacy learning. Strategies and resources for supporting the development of reading, writing and spelling for individuals with dyslexia and how to apply support strategies in practice will also be covered.
